Franz has sponsored House Resolution 325 and House Concurrent Resolution 62, calling Congress to use funds from the federal Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund’s $5 billion surplus for dredging and maintenance work at 15 harbor of refuge facilities in Michigan.
During testimony in September on the resolutions, Mrozinksi said that Portage Lake Harbor is compromised by sandbars and low water levels that have turned the port into a dangerous entrance for boaters. Without a clear passage, 200 jobs and $3 million in revenue could be lost and property values could drop by 35 percent.
